Please bring the same ID document you used when registering for your test. Unfortunately, no other form of identification can be accepted on the day.
Please make sure to check your test date and time carefully, and allow enough time for your journey to the test centre. Candidates who arrive late may not be permitted to take the test.
Once you have checked in, you will be able to store your personal belongings safely. The waiting area where your items are kept will be locked for the duration of the test.
All mobile phones and electronic devices must be switched off and left outside the test room together with your personal belongings.
We also recommend eating and drinking before your test so that you feel comfortable and ready to do your best. Food is not permitted in the test room, but you may bring one drink in a clear bottle.
It's finally arrived... the day of your IELTS test!
On this page you will find information on how your test day will be like.
Please be sure to arrive about 30 minutes before the start of the test. Your confirmation email, which you will receive after booking the test, will provide you with timings and procedures on the test day.
Please note that latecomers might not be allowed to sit the test!
Before your Test
During your Test
- The overall duration of the test is 2 hours and 45 minutes. There are no breaks between the Listening, Reading and Writing part.
- You will take all parts of the test on a computer, even the Speaking, which is done online via Zoom with a certified Speaking Examiner.
- Please note that the QWERTZ keyboard will be used on all computers.
Once your test begins, it is important to keep an eye on the time so that you can complete each part of the test comfortably.
Some questions include recommended time limits, and we encourage you to follow these where possible.
Make sure to read each task carefully before you begin writing your answers.
Try to work calmly and stay focused on each question. There is no need to rush — taking a clear and steady approach will help you do your best.
If you have any questions during the test, simply raise your hand and a member of the invigilation team will assist you.
When you have finished your test, you may leave the test room and collect your personal belongings.
After the Test
- The results for IELTS will generally be available within 1 and 5 days, usually on day 2 after the test.
- You can check your IELTS result and download your TRF on this page.
- If you would like to improve your result, IELTS One Skill Retake is an option, where you can retake any one component of the test: Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking without redoing all four sections.
- IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted by various universities and professional bodies. Always check the website of the organisation you intend to apply to for more information about eligibility requirements.
